As a wedding photographer, I am often asked “what are the best wedding venues in Edinburgh? To be honest, this is a tough question to answer because there are so many fantastic wedding venues to choose from. Personally, I love venues that have something unique about them. And, possibly because I’m a photographer, the light of the venue is another big one for me. I also love venues that are full of natural light and that have beautiful and spacious grounds and gardens.

Over the years, I have had the pleasure of working at many brilliant Edinburgh wedding venues. I can honestly say that Edinburgh and its surrounding areas are full of amazing and wonderful places to get married. Here are some of my favourite Edinburgh venues for celebrating your wedding day.

Kirknewton Stables. First up is this lovely barn venue just outside of Edinburgh. With beautiful, extensive grounds and a walled garden, Kirknewton Stables is perfect for couples looking for a relaxed, alternative wedding venue. This is a venue that couples can fully decorate themselves, enjoy lawn games, an outdoor drinks reception and photographs in the evening sunshine. If you are having a larger wedding celebration, the venue also offers a fabulous marquis situated immediately by the stables. It’s a bit of a dream venue! Check out Jonna & James wedding at Kirknewton Stables.

Gilmerton House Estate is simply divine for weddings. Situated ca 30 mins from Edinburgh, I photographed Jamie and Jesper’s wedding here and just fell in love with all its gorgeousness. This is a really beautiful stately home that will give you the most wonderful wedding day. The house itself is lush, each room is really unique (I’ve had the full tour) and the gardens and nearby woodland areas are just lovely. Not only that, but you will also have your own butler…! So, do get married here and do invite me along to photograph your big day!

The Restoration Yard in Dalkeith Country park is another fabulous venue to celebrate your wedding. With its gorgeous grounds and stylish interior it offers a bright, fresh and contemporary space. Why not also have your drinks reception, or indeed your ceremony in the historic orangery. I photographed Gail and Richard’s lovely wedding at the Restoration Yard and would simply love to shoot there again.

Dunglass Estate is situated just over an hour away from Edinburgh and is such a fabulous venue to celebrate your wedding day. Not only will you have a beautiful big house all to yourself, but you will also get married in a stunning 15th century church. Did I also mention the extensive grounds for your drinks reception, games and a big marquis for your wedding party to enjoy your meal and evening dancing. Take a look at  Amy and Lee’s and Nikki and Andrew’s weddings that I captured at Dunglass Estate.

Dundas Castle lies just outside of Edinburgh and is a beautiful luxurious wedding venue that will give your wedding day that true Scottish feel. Whether you choose an outdoor ceremony in the courtyard or an atmospheric one in the Auld Keep, it’s sure to be a romantic day. Then, enjoy your wedding breakfast and dancing in one of the stunning rooms or pavilion. I’ve photographed a few weddings here, Gill and & Mile’s fabulous wedding being one of them.

Carberry Tower is a lovely Castle Hotel just outside of Edinburgh. With its own chapel for ceremonies, extensive grounds and woodland areas perfect for photography as well as an abundance of spacious beautiful rooms inside, this is a great venue. Big shout out also to the super friendly and helpful staff.

Prestonfield House offers a truly luxurious Scottish wedding experience. Indeed, the hotel is completely unique in every way and with its lovely gardens and beautiful peacocks, (yes, peacocks roam the grounds of Prestonfield House) I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this beautiful venue. With its private dining room for 2 hidden off a stone turret stair with views over Arthut’s Seat, it also makes a perfect elopement venue. I’ve photographed a few weddings at Prestonfield House and are looking forward to more in 2021.

Carlowrie Castle  sits on the outskirts of Edinburgh in the small town of Kirkliston. As well as enjoying its trendy decor you can also see a collection of international Urban and Pop Art. With its beautiful orangery perfect for ceremonies, a new marquis and extensive grounds, Carlowrie Castle will be a lovely wedding venue for your big day.

Dalhouse Castle lies ca 10 miles outside of Edinburgh and is steeped in Scottish history. With its vaulted ceiling chapel, 35 beautiful bedrooms and lovely grounds, it is sure to charm your family and friends. And, if you would like an owl to deliver your rings you’re in luck, it also has its own falconry! This is a lovely venue for celebrating your big day.

Cringletie House Hotel. Last but not least, Cringletie House is a charming country hotel about an hour south of Edinburgh. This is a gorgeous wedding venue, perfect for small to medium sized weddings. The house itself is just lovely and has stunning gardens and grounds for your wedding photos. Take a look at Jenny and Felix wedding that I had the pleasure to photograph at Cringletie House.
